today I am depressed
today I am depressed
and I don't know what to do
I've taken all my medicine
but I'm feeling more than blue
nothing's any different
than the day before
how was I to know
what today would have in store
double my perceptions, doc
they're not working like they should
terminal depression
never does me any good
today I am depressed
and there is no end in sight
might as well go to bed
though it's hours until night
minutes crawl inside me
like a second is an hour
you'd think maybe somehow
depression would lose its power
but depression's like a cockroach
whatever you do, it just keeps living
terminal depression
knows nothing about forgiving
today I am depressed
covered completely in sorrow
think I'll just hide today
and see what comes tomorrow

a wasted life
I have lived a wasted life
ask my family
ask my friends
I tried to make it as right
as can be
to fix what's broke
to help it mend
I do it over and over again

hold me
all I need is a place to rest
my weary head
life has put me through its test
but I ain't dead
give me water
give me air to breathe
don't bother
I know what to believe
life has magic upon its sleeve
but for now
just hold me

it sucks to be you
right now
it sucks to be you
yes, I know
this is more than the blues
pretend it's temporary
what else can you do
except ride it through
like you're surfing the waves
prison walls
I'm trying to sleep
inside these prison walls
but the past won't let me be
I might be fine
except that I'm
the owner of these memories
my spirit rises above it all
but, man, it's a long hard fall
when you're trying to fall asleep
inside these prison walls
there is no hope
inside these prison walls
but I am still alive
every day's the same
I need no name
my brain tells only lies
a shot's the only rest I get
I pay with food and cigarettes
I only need to fall asleep
inside these prison walls
Lord Jesus please save me
I'm sorry I have betrayed thee
it's another day
inside these prison walls
but it might as well be night
my darkest soul
is beyond control
and all my wrongs are right
all I really need, it seems,
is the escape path of dreams
man, I need to fall asleep
inside these prison walls

sirens
I hear sirens in the distance
I know something is wrong
it's happening somewhere
it doesn't belong
from where I stand
there is nothing to see
and all this has nothing
to do with me
there are sirens
there are sirens
the group home on the corner
sometimes sirens over there
come announcing terror
in the armor that they wear
from where I stand
in the front yard
I see the evidence
of times being hard
there are sirens
there are sirens
I was in an ambulance
speeding to emergency
all I remember is disbelief
taking charge all over me
from where I lay
to the unknown
one thing's for sure
I'm not going home
there are sirens
there are sirens
