brand new day

wake up in the morning
the first thing I feel
is fear for the brand new day
it comes with no warning
I know that bad luck
is going to come my way
it's a common occurrence
there is no insurance
that the present will be okay
but even though I'm hurtin'
there's one thing for certain
I refuse to be afraid

          I will not be afraid
          of this brand new day
          it doesn't matter
          whatever the newspapers say
          I'll be able to handle any problem
          that dares to come my way

wake up in the morning 
feeling like there's nowhere
safe I can hide
but I ain't scared
I'm going where
the sun will meet me
outside
it may just be for a minute
there's vitamin D in it
and my eyes are open wide
but I'm gonna do it
I'm gonna go through it
and come out the other side

          I will not be afraid
          of this brand new day
          it doesn't matter
          whatever my mind wants to say
