human being

out in the backyard

the crickets are chirping

the sky is as clear

as an old mountain stream

I tilt my head back

and gaze at the stars

there is the universe

i am just a human being

I live on a planet

the earth is my home

where I will go'

there is no guaranteeing 

this world is the only

place I have known

out in the universe

I am just a human being

          I don't take it for granted

          my home on the range

          but I swear I've never seen

          anything so strange

here in the moonlight

I stop asking why

I look at my life

and I give it a try

I don't have a word
