when the phone rings 
in the middle of the night
and your heart leaps
like a panther on the strike
and you pick up the receiver
saying "hold on tight"
I hope it's good news

when that envelope comes
from the IRS
and you know that they're thinking
your life is a mess
when you think they want you to confess
I hope it's good news

          when you think that it's all wrong
          including the kitchen sink
          I'm hoping that what happens
          is opposite of what you think

when your mind wanders
to worry and doubt
and all your inspiration
is lost in a drought
